jewellery care

To keep your jewellery looking glamorous, protect it from perspiration, chemicals, sunlight and extreme temperatures and avoid wearing semi-precious stones, pearls or vermeil in water. Best to put jewellery on after using lotion, perfume, hairspray, cosmetics to avoid contact with substances that can stain, fade or damage your pieces. Dirt and residue can be cleaned with a touch of mild dishwashing liquid and warm water. Protect Swarovski crystals and zircons from hitting hard surfaces, as they are delicate and can break.

Keep your sterling silver jewellery from tarnishing or being scratched by placing it in sealed ziploc bags, in felted cloth or anti-tarnish jewellery bags/boxes when not being worn.

Chemical dip cleaners are instantly gratifying, but wearing on the luster and life of your jewellery. Do not clean semi-precious stones, pearls or vermeil with any jewellery cleaning products.

Chemical-free Cleaning Dip
(Recommended ONLY for jewellery that is ALL-STERLING silver)

  1. Boil enough water to submerge the sterling silver being cleaned
  2. Line a glass or plastic dish with a piece of aluminum foil
  3. Place jewellery on the aluminum making sure all silver touches the foil
  4. Sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda over the jewellery
  5. Pour enough boiling water to immerse the jewellery… (bubbling should occur, giving off a rotten-egg odour – the sulfuric gases release by the cleaning action!)
  6. Using a wood or plastic utensil, gently move pieces around to ensure the silver surfaces come in contact with the aluminum
  7. Place jewellery in a sieve and rinse under tap water
  8. Gently wipe and polish with a soft cloth

Voila… clean silver!

Polishing Paste for “ALL-SILVER” only
Mix baking soda with a touch of dish soap (Sunlight works best) and using an old gentle toothbrush, softly scrub jewellery for a few minutes in the palm of your hand.
